Once you graduate, you will not have as much free time as you do in college. Learning the importance of time management and life balance will benefit you for so many reasons and make your life easier. Find what works for you and stick to it.
Here are 5 tips to help you manage your time and balance out your life.
Don’t be excessive
It seems that everything in college is done in excess. Studying/cramming for exams, partying and social events, Netflix, eating, you name it. There is nothing wrong with any of these activities, but spread them out.
Figure out what’s important to you
Maybe all of your friends play video games until the wee hours of the morning, and you join them every time, but you would rather be doing anything else. Do what makes you happy and limit wasting your time on things that don’t. Clearing up that wasted time will open up more opportunities for you.
Focus on long term goals
Having a long term goal is important, whether it’s vague or very specific. Once you have set this goal you can manage your time and plan your schedule with your objective in mind.
Hold yourself responsible
You are an adult. If you decide to spend your time a certain way, and things end up differently from what you expected, you are the only one to hold responsible for your decisions and actions.
Make a plan
So, it’s Saturday night and you want to attend that party you were invited to, but you also have a huge exam on Monday morning. How do you manage? Make a plan where you can effectively study and prepare for your test, and still block out a few hours to make an appearance at your party. This type of situation goes back to finding out what’s important to you, long term goals, taking responsibility, and not being excessive. If the party is more important than the test, and you choose not to put aside any time to study and go all out at the party, the end results will be bad and you will have no one to blame but yourself. Try to plan a week in advance for your activities. Get a planner or calendar on your desk to outline your week or month. You can make time for all the important obligations you have and still leave time to relax and have free time for social events.
