SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT: Middle Tennessee State University

Middle Tennessee State University was founded over 100 years ago in 1911. Since its opening, the university has become well known for academics, athletics, and community engagement. The campus sits on 550 acres of land and is home to about 23,000 students this year. MTSU offers 37 programs and 142 degrees to undergrad students, also offering 100 programs of study to graduate students. The university’s Aerospace Department is considered one of the best in the nation. Recently they opened a concentration in Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operation. Being a student at MTSU also makes you a part of the Murfreesboro community. In a study done by the Business and Economic Research Center at MTSU, they found that 1 in 7 college-educated people in the Nashville area is a MTSU graduate. Middle Tennessee State has produced some great athletes over the years including professional baseball pitcher Dewon Brazelton, professional women’s basketball player Amber Holt, and professional football player Phillip Tanner, just to name a few.

Why did you choose to attend Middle Tennessee State?

It is in my hometown so easy to get to, plus the reputation was top in the state and still is.

What do you like most about MTSU?

They took all of my military credentials and offer online degree programs. This way I can still get a job and don’t have to travel back and forth.

What do you like most about living in Murfreesboro?

It is one of the fastest growing counties in the state and nation. There is a lot to offer and do.

What do you like to do for fun/hobbies?

Spend time with my family, and outdoors activities. I play rugby for the Nashville men’s league.

Do you have any advice for incoming freshman?

Pay attention to your advisors and do not be afraid to ask for help! Participate in classes don’t just get by to get by.
