I chose to attend PSU because I am interested in studying more about the environment, and PSU has a good environmental science program. Sustainability is a big focus at PSU, which is another plus.

What do you like most about Portland State?

What I like most about PSU is how many resources there are available to me. There is tutoring available in the library, helpful advisers, and lots of great study spaces. The professors always want to see you succeed. I also enjoy going to a college that’s in the city, there’s always a lot going on.

What do you like most about living in Portland?

I live in Beaverton, but Portland is like my second home since I spend so much time here. It’s really convenient to travel around the city with the MAX and streetcar. I love that Portland is surrounded by nature, and that the city has lots of cool restaurants and bookstores to check out.

What do you like to do for fun/extracurricular/hobbies?

I’m a coordinator for Environmental Club at PSU, so I help plan big events like our annual Earth Day Festival, which I really enjoy doing. I also love painting and hiking in the Columbia River Gorge.

Do you have any advice for incoming freshman?

Don’t be afraid to go to your professor’s office hours if you need help, they will gladly help you and you will get to know them a lot better. Get involved with a club you find interesting on campus; it’s a great way to get leadership experience. At the same time, don’t overload yourself or commit to too many things. It’s important to remember to take care of yourself if you want to succeed in college and beyond.
