Why did you choose to attend Sam Houston State?
To me, it was all about the people I met when I toured SHSU. My brother was going to school here, so that helped my decision, but everyone was so friendly. I immediately felt like it was the place where I belonged and after four years, that feeling has not changed at all.
What do you like most about SHSU?
I like that because it is a smaller campus, but still growing in size, I am able to have so many leadership positions. Some friends at bigger schools get lost among the thousands of students, but I feel like SHSU gives me a shot to stand out and show my potential.
What do you like most about living in Huntsville?
I love the small college town feel of Huntsville. There are so many traditions and history here which is intriguing to me. Also, locals are really friendly and welcome college students.
What do you like to do for fun/hobbies?
Outside of school work I am really involved with my extracurricular activities. I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Order of Omega, and have been involved in other organizations throughout my college experience. Being involved makes helps me stay busy, while learning to be a leader. For fun I like to hang out with my sorority sisters and find random things to do in Huntsville, such as go to the state park for a hike or go see movies. We also volunteer a lot which is a passion of mine.
Do you have any advice for incoming freshman?
The main advice I would want to give freshmen is to really take it all in and take advantage of every opportunity SHSU, or any other university, has to offer you. Join organizations, meet with your teachers during office hours, and get out of your comfort zone. College is an investment, which many do not understand and fully take advantage of. The more involved you become and the more you learn, the better you will be for the real world when you graduate. Four years seems like a long time and you will think you have enough time to do everything you want, but I promise you it goes by too fast and you will miss it.
