Featuring an interview with Environmental Science student, Graham Ellison

Texas A&M was the first public institution of higher learning to open in Texas and still carries on their strong Aggie tradition today. The university offers 120 undergraduate and 240 graduate degree programs in 16 colleges and schools to more than 50,000 students. The university is also well known for it’s extensive research programs. Texas A&M is filled with traditions including the Aggie Ring and Muster and the Big Event and First Yell. The traditions of Texas A&M create what Aggies call the Spirit of Aggieland.

College Station is a great place for students, offering a small-town feel with big city features. The city is located right in the heart of central Texas and only a short drive to many neighboring major cities if you want to get away for the weekend. College Station has over 50 parks that include hiking, biking and nature trails, making it fun for any outdoor enthusiast.

Why did you choose to attend Texas A&M?

It had the academic programs that I was interested in pursuing and the reputation of being an excellent university.

What do you like most about Texas A&M?

The friendly social environment. People do not mind taking the time to guide or help others.

What do you like most about living in College Station?

There is always something fun going on no matter what day of the week. It’s a great place to meet people from all walks of life.

What do you like to do for fun/extracurricular/hobbies?

I like to head to lakes to cool off and relax. There are numerous hiking trails and parks to explore. College station also has an excellent nightlife and music scene. There are always bands to listen to and enjoy. I also like to fish and hunt. 

Do you have any advice for incoming freshman?              

Try not to let the excitement of College Station and all the things is has to offer distract you from you main objective; graduation! Certainly enjoy and go out of your comfort zone but do not forget to maintain your studies.
