Winter Break Checklist

Holiday movie marathon

Some families watch the same movie every year for the holidays while others choose to see new ones for the first time or just watch whatever happens to be on TV. Whatever your tradition, you can’t go wrong with holiday movies. They bring the family together and get you in the holiday spirit. Here are a few of our favorites: It’s A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, Eight Crazy Nights and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Sleep off the stress of finals

The last few weeks have been filled with sleepless nights and early mornings. Take this opportunity to curl up in your own bed and sleep… and then sleep some more. No alarm clocks, no restless minds, no roommates.

 Read a book for pleasure

You have been forced to read academic books for classes all semester long. This is your chance to read a book for fun. Grab something light and cheerful to pass the time while relaxing by the fireplace.

Family game night

An evening filled with laughs during a family game night is a holiday staple. This is a fun way to spend time with loved ones over the holidays. Some of our favorite games are Pictionary, Apples to Apples and Catch Phrase.

Do a semesters worth of dirty laundry

Odds are that you found way too many dirty clothes to know what to do with when you were packing up your room for break. Don’t worry, throw them into a few garbage bags and haul them home to be washed, sorted, and neatly folded by mom.

Snowball fight

This one is a given. What better way to have fun while creating complete domination over a younger sibling who has missed your shenanigans over the last few months. Get the whole family or neighborhood involved for even more fun! If you live in a place with a warmer climate, just make sure to get outside and be active.

 Catch up with friends

Plan a bon fire or holiday party and invite all of your buds from your hometown over. Staying in touch is hard when you go to a different school and live in a different city or state than your childhood friends. Sure, you talk occasionally via social media outlets but nothing compares to catching up in person.

Create your New Years resolution list

With all the free time you have during winter break, it is the perfect time to look ahead to the upcoming semester. What academic and personal goals do you want to set for yourself? Spend this time making an awesome list for your New Years resolutions.
